CAST LIST WITH CHARACTER NAMES
In honor of the 150th anniversary of its publication, the Appleton North High School theatre department will present an original theatrical adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s beloved novel ALICE’S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND on May 7TH -10TH in the Appleton North High School auditorium. This stage version was created from the classic work by North theatre students who used the author’s own words and descriptions to create the script. North theatre director, Ron Parker stated, “This is the first time we have attempted to adapt a work of literary fiction into a play. We’ve staged other playwrights’ adaptations, most notably those by Mary Zimmerman, but never made the attempt ourselves—until now. The result is, we believe, the most authentic and definitive dramatic rendition of Carroll’s novel available. We are also honored to be part of a world-wide celebration of ALICE IN WONDERLAND taking place this year to mark the sesquicentennial of its original publication in 1865. We’re very excited to bring the world-premiere of this original play to the stage!”
The impact and popularity of Carroll’s nonsensical story of a little girl who falls down a rabbit hole to find herself in a fantastical world filled with absurd situations and bizarre characters has continued to grow over the years, Iconic characters such as the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Hatter, and the Queen of Hearts continue to delight readers of all ages. ALICE IN WONDERLAND today is the most quoted book in the world after the Bible, the Koran, and the works of William Shakespeare.
North’s original theatrical adaptation of Carroll’s masterpiece will feature a large cast, an original score by British composer Jay Chakravorty, innovative theatrical staging, and audience members seated directly upon the stage in a “studio environment” to make them part of the action and storytelling.
